An Overview
Meningioma is a cancer that occurs in the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord (meninges). The cancer tumor is often slow growing and it is usually not malignant. It also does not spread to other parts of the body. Meningioma usually develops in individuals aged between 35 and 45 years, and affects twice as many women than men.
Risk Factors
Most common in adults aged 65 years or older
Women more likely than men
Exposure to radiation
Neurofibromatosis type 2
Signs & Symptoms
The following are the symptoms to watch for in order to detect the disease early:
Headaches
Nausea
Vomiting
Blurred vision
Balance problems
Personality or behavior changes
Seizures
Drowsiness
